MIAMI, FL: Miami Artist Troy Simmons was featured in Indulge Magazine's Art Basel Edition for the December 2018. The article entitled "Troy Simmons Creates Some of Miami's Most Experiential Art" explores Simmons' use of materials to create his work.

MIAMI, FL: Much of the recent history of Wynwood has involved artists turning what was once a drab warehouse district into a vibrant, colorful hub for culture and the arts. The revitalization clearly inspired artist Troy Simmons, whose latest exhibition at the Bakehouse Art Complex, "The Open House," involves ripping open aluminum and concrete industrial structures to reveal color within. He exhibited with Tom Scicluna, whose work focuses on the recontextualization of everyday objects.

South African-born contemporary art curator Clair Breukel was the creative force behind this exhibition. Here's her synopsis of the show:

"A real estate term for inviting prospective buyers to survey a home, “Open House” signifies open doors, an invitation for inspection and the possibility of acquisition. During this process one might study house’s make up including its windows and doors, and ask revealing questions about the materials of its core foundation. The Open House is not then a home, but a gallery of its own display.

In the exhibition The Open House, Troy Simmons proposes structural anomalies that are at once uniform in their concrete and aluminum construction, yet protruding, geometrically twisted and formally ‘different.’ Inviting closer inspection, Simmons’ works instigate interaction by seductively revealing bands of colorful neon enamel, which subtly position the human body within these reinvented urban forms. Simmons opens a door and a window for discovery.

In real estate, Open Houses expose private interiors to public eyes. However rules dictate visitors to be passive lookers. In other words, the personal is made only marginally public. Intervention in this open forum—either removing or adding objects—although possibly illegal and definitely frowned upon, is an entirely plausible and easily attainable action.

Purposefully overturning procedural behavioral Tom Scicluna finds objects from the everyday and recontextualizes them by proposing situations and constructs that displace, disrupt and renew these objects. In this way, Scicluna brushes up against institutional norms by rethinking traditional formats of exhibition and methods for processing art. Politely, humorously, and often times importantly uncomfortably, Tom Scicluna intervenes". -

Knight Arts Foundation Names Troy Simmons finalists in Arts Challenge Miami

MIAMI,FL –  Miami artist Troy Simmons, in partnership with the Bakehouse Art Complex, was selected as a finalists in the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Knight Arts Challenge.  This is the 10^th year for the community-wide initiative funding projects that help make art general in Miami.

Genesis II Currently on display at the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood

  HOLLYWOOD, FL: Art & Culture Center of Hollywood’s Biennial featured 87 works of art by 78 artists including Miami Artist Troy Simmons. Overall, 383 artists representing 21 different Florida counties submitted 1,084 entries for consideration.

Troy Simmons Exhibits at Art Palm Beach 2015

Inspiration for his current collection is drawn from the evolution of social structure and nature's persistence to coexist.  Those relationships are illustrated in the colors and material used in his work.

Recently Acquired V, which features works by 5 artists who have taken residency at the Bakehouse in the past year, opened in the complex's Audrey Love Gallery during 1st View/2nd Friday.  Exhibiting artist include Artist Troy Simmons who has 4 cement paintings on display.

 The VIP Opening Reception was held during 1st View/2nd Friday on May 9, 2014. The exhibition highlights the inspiration and influences developed in the residency.

Troy Simmons at the Coral Gables Museum- "Urbanism: Perceived and Interpreted"

  Beauty can be found in the unlikeliest of places. Local artists have grown and developed their styles while responding to their changing surroundings in Miami. It's the theme surrounding the newest exhibit happening at the Coral Gables Museum!

Troy Simmons along with other artist from the Bakehouse Art Complex were selected to dispaly work for the newest exhibition, "Urbanism: Perceived and Interpreted."

Artists like Troy, who reside in the Miami are emerged in the heart of urban life, landscape and evolution. The gritty city with its undeniable aesthetic appeal inspires and influences its inhabitants. Images of urbanism mirror the city, creating an echo that vibrates between works of art and the city skyline filled with all of its wonders from skyscrapers to pigeons on electrical wires.

As the Coral Gables Museum is dedicated to the civic arts, including architecture, urban design and development, this exhibit will present selected works by BAC resident artists that respond to the current urban environment. You can see Troy Simmons' work at the Coral Gable's Mueseum February 7 – March 30, 2014.

Troy Simmons featured in Palm Beach Society

ArtHouse 429 celebrated the start of art season with an exciting show featuring the works of Troy Simmons.  The gallery was recently feature in the December Issue of Palm Beach Society Magazine. Located in the Historic Northwood Village near downtown West Palm Beach, Arthouse 429 has become a very popular spot for art collectors along Florida's East Coast.  

Troy currently has four pieces on display, CP1, CYG1, CBB1 and CG1. Each piece is made with combination of Concrete, Aluminum and Acrylic Paint.
