Artist Troy Simmons’ work will be on display in a public art exhibition
during Miami Art Week at Art Basel.
Simmons is teaming up with #Saveartspace, a non-profit dedicated to
transforming traditional advertising platforms into public art.
The group exhibition
comprises work of 8 local South Florida artists which will be displayed on
billboards and bus shelters across the Wynwood Art District. Curated by Co-founders Travis Rix and Justin
Aversano, this is the group’s second public art exhibition, the previous one
transforming spaces in Brooklyn, New York.
Troy Simmons was born in 1975 in Texas and
currently resides in Miami, Florida. His
educational background is in Environmental Sciences and Architecture. Simmons'
work is influenced by nature and the Brutalist Architecture movement of the
1950s. He uses concrete, color fields and organic forms to express his position
on the coexistence of different entities.
Simmons is represented by JanKossen Contemporary Art (New York/Basel,
Switzerland) and is a resident artist at Bakehouse Art Complex in the Wynwood
Art District.
Simmons’ more recent exhibitions include: Art
Southamptons (2015), Art Paris (2015), The University of Miami Museum Gallery
